Gary has been handling personal injury cases since 1993. He has tried approximately 50 personal injury jury trials and arbitrations in the state courts of Oregon and Washington as well as the Federal US District Court of Oregon.
Gary gained experience as a trial lawyer first by working for Hart Wagner, LLP, a large law firm with offices in Portland and Redmond, Oregon, defending personal injury cases for insurance companies and then as the head of the litigation department of Hurley Re, PC in Bend, Oregon.
Some of his clients included Aetna Insurance, Albertson's, Allstate Insurance, American National Property & Casualty Insurance, Country Financial Insurance, Farmers Insurance, Foremost Insurance, and National Interstate Insurance among others. He was also state counsel for a Fortune 100 big box company responsible for handling all the personal injury claims brought against the company throughout Oregon for several years.
The cases he has handled included multimillion dollar wrongful death claims, tractor-trailer accidents, bus accidents, fatal car accidents, slip and fall accidents, and dog bite attack incidents.
Gary has also briefed and argued cases before the Oregon Court of Appeals.
Gary was born and raised on Kodiak Island in South Western Alaska. Growing up, he commercial fished for salmon, halibut and herring. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Washington where he met his wife Jill of 26 years with whom he has 2 children. Each summer throughout college, he returned to Kodiak to work in the commercial fisheries.
Gary graduated from law school in 1993 and practiced in Portland until 1999 when he moved to Central Oregon with his family. Gary was active in the Redmond Kiwanis club for years. He also enjoyed running his hay and cattle ranch and coaching his kids’ sports teams. He enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, road and mountain biking, kayaking, running, and swimming and competed solo in the Pole, Pedal, Paddle and Central Oregon triathlons for several years.
